PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Asbri Planning was appointed as lead planning consultant responsible for securing planning and listed building consent for the restoration of Hay Castle, Hay-on-Wye in the Brecon Beacons National Park. A complex development site situated in a National Park, within a Landscape Park and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales, s Conservation Area and designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I and II listed building.
The project comprises the restoration and change of use of Hay Castle, the Manor House and the outbuildings to create a public venue for education and the arts as well as an event space, a café, ancillary office space and retention of existing retail units. The project conserves the historic gatehouse, the critically at-risk medieval keep, the Jacobean mansion and secures the restoration and re-opening of the ancient gate – the oldest of its kind in the UK, in addition to the creation of new exhibition, education and visitor facilities across the 10,000sq/m site at the heart of the town.
OUR INPUT
Asbri Planning were lead planning consultant, leading in negotiations and discussions with Officers from the National Park Planning Authority, co-ordinating the design team, including project architect and other specialists, in the preparation of a comprehensive planning and listed building application. Asbri Planning then secured the discharge of all conditions allowing a prompt start on site.
